/GHG Municipality Calculation Tool

We created the only specialized software tool for quantification and carbon footprint calculation.

You can find below some basic questions that you may have about carbon footpring and our software.

The assessment of the carbon footprint is a fundamentally scientific exercise, as it is necessary to analyze the processes that can produce or sequester CO2 and their evolution over time. In order to inventory the quantities and convert them into emissions and sinks, a deep knowledge of the available methodological approaches is required, avoiding incorrect estimates and reducing the overall uncertainty.
Our contribution consists of supporting each organization in the assessment of the carbon footprint of each energy use or emission source separately, aiming to the formation of a realistic emissions reduction plan.

ISOCLINE specializes in GHG Inventory assessment for a for a variety of organizations. A special category is the country's Municipalities, which, according to the recent developments resulting from the new National Climate Law 4936/2022 and specifically article 16, are required to draw up Municipal Emission Reduction Plans (MERPs). Each municipality should proceed with the valuation of its carbon footprint, i.e. the quantification of the CO2 emissions created by each activity of its operation (e.g. heating, lighting, transportation, machinery, etc.) and the possible sequestrations (e.g. photovoltaics), in order to draw the measures to reduce its overall emissions.

The calculation of the carbon footprint can be done in accordance with the "GHG Protocol WRI" standard or alternatively with the "ISO 14064-1:2018" standard and must include direct emissions (scope 1) and indirect emissions from the use of electricity and heat (scope 2) while it may also include the other (except electricity and heat) indirect emissions (scope 3). Then this calculation can or must be verified by a verifier (person or body) accredited by the ESYD (Hellenic Accreditation System) in accordance with Regulation (EU) 600/2012 (and the newer 2018/2067 which has replaced the 2012 Regulation).

With the "GHG Municipality Calculation Tool" the technical and accounting departments of each municipality can collect and manage the necessary data (quantities, processes, etc.) in a way that is conceivable, reducing the risk of data gaps or double counting, while ensuring the maximum possible reliability resulting to the vital and positive impact to reduce uncertainty (as required). The collected data is processed by the software in order to obtain the emissions and sequestrations from the respective sources and sinks and their required categorization (anthropogenic, non-anthropogenic biogenic etc.). Finally, the "GHG Municipality Calculation Tool" determines the data required for the uncertainty study.

The need for effective and accurate GHG inventory valuation for municipalities led ISOCLINE to create the only specialized software tool for quantification and carbon footprint calculation "GHG Municipality Calculation Tool". The "GHG Municipality Calculation Tool" is a registered trademark (™) at the OBI (Hellenic Industrial Property Organisation) with pan-European protection, in addition it is a product of intellectual property (©) of its creators and is protected based on both the national Law (article 6 par. 2 L. 2121/1993 amendment by Law 3057/2002 "for the harmonization of certain aspects of copyright and related rights in the information society" and all subsequent amendments) as well as international Law (article 5 par.2 International Berne Convention).
